👨🏼🎓 Probably, everyone has already heard about the scandal with Spartak Subota, who is accused of lying about his education and forging documents that prove it. And if not, then 100% had to read about other scandals involving violations of academic integrity.
For example, about the scandal in the Lviv region, where a professor who taught prosecutors and police law was found to have fake diplomas. This wasn’t known in universities for years, and even the Ministry of Education confirmed these academic titles. The police have already referred the case to court, for fraud and forgery of documents the suspect faces up to 8 years behind bars. And these are just a few examples out of hundreds of similar ones.
Violations of academic integrity, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, and insufficient attribution, negatively affect the reliability of scientific research and trust in the educational system. They undermine the basic principles of integrity in the educational environment, and also deprive scientists and students of the opportunity to obtain objective and reliable knowledge.
In general, violations of academic integrity are closely related to corruption and a variety of corruption risks that push people to dishonest actions. As a result, we have a distrust of the educational system and a distorted goal of the educational process.
In order to change education for the better, experts of the Institutional Development Foundation join the project on the implementation of anti-corruption compliance in higher education institutions Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine "Anti-corruption compliance in higher education: foreign experience and national practice."
Within the framework of this project Kateryna Datsko, Oksana Bronevytska, Anna Fedorenko, Yuliia Lomzhets joined the coordination visits to the higher education institutions participating in the project. The project aims to develop an effective model of anti-corruption compliance and tools for involving students in anti-corruption practices in higher education institutions.
This is important for the formation in educational institutions of effective mechanisms to prevent violations of academic integrity, to ensure proper training in research ethics and to impose appropriate sanctions for violations of these requirements, as well as to teach students about integrity and involve them in combating corruption.
