Whistleblowers are ordinary people who, guided by various motivations, at a certain stage of their lives made a choice and found themselves in certain living conditions that have an impact on their life and mental state. Therefore, it is important that every country has a developed system of psychological assistance to whistleblowers. For this, it is necessary to exchange experience and take the best practices of other countries.
On the 27th February, Oksana Bronevytska, head of the NGO "Foundation for Institutional Development", took part in the "Trauma in Whistleblowing" conference, dedicated to psychological assistance to whistleblowers, and shared Ukraine's experience in the development of psychological counseling for whistleblowers.
Whistleblowers from Britain spoke at the conference and spoke about their experience of traumatization. A separate panel was devoted to changes in the protection of whistleblowers. Also, a clinical psychologist from Norway — Dr Cecilie Thorsen, Dr Brigid MacCarthy and the founder of the NGO "Whistleblowers of America" Jackie Garrick shared their experience of counseling whistleblowers. Attention was also paid to self-recovery after traumatic events.
During the conference, a strategy was worked out to help British colleagues in the development of providing psychological assistance to whistleblowers in Ukraine.
